They have software that keeps track of every hand played. Cheaters are very easy to see and are red flagged immediately.

In addition to this, there is software available for players to use that tracks every hand played and it can pick out patterns of cheating by the house or other players as well.

From what I understand...from people that play professionally...its thought to be a pretty square system at most of the larger online poker rooms.

Once in a while you have to report partners that are probably using cell phones to team up on a table...but its rare, and they are usually caught pretty fast by the house, or other players watching out for themselves.

Of course... whats to stop a high tech geek from using a supercomputer to beat you?
