Oh, I think you are correct John. But I think cultural evolution is our manifest destiny. I believe this is how the universe works.

Probably many civilizations get to this point, but very few get through it for a very obvious reason.

Evolution is everything killing and eating everything else. So by the time the bio mass of a planet reaches our intellectual capability we have built in hardware that is programed to kill.

We can see it in the way our primitive ancestors lived, ceaslessly fighting, with great cruelty. We can see it today in our most primitive countries. Look at how the waring people behave in Africa for instance. Middle east is same 13th century culture.

We can also see it today in people who love sports. That is just sublemating the killing instinct in man.

Because many people in India and Pakistan see the nuclear weapon as a status symbol, but have no real understanding of its destruction. They will have the first nuclear war I am guessing. Maybe the deaths of hundreds of millions of people will sober us up. I doubt it.

Anyway, I do beleive once a species gets past this very dangerous phase where our basic instincts are overridden by our intelelctual logic then, we may become eternal sentient beings at some point.

Now I am sure many sentient beings in the universe know we are here, but we are probably just an anthropological curiosity as they watch to see if we make it through this delicate period.

They may take bets on it-lol.
