Retail vs. overall

The article in question states the following:

"Based on a survey of catalog and retail sales operations, PC Data said. . ."

Therefore, to me, this would indicate that it excludes corporate and education sales. Question: does this also exclude direct sales a la The Apple Store?

Note that this falls in line with why you don't see Dell mentioned anywhere.
