WEST CHESTER, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 5, 1998--
Integration of L&H's Speech Recognition and Text-to-Speech Technology with EMS' TelAccess(R) and SpeechAccess(TM) extends the capabilities of Computer Telephony Applications.
EMS, a leading provider of products and services for the call processing solutions used in Computer Telephony Integration (CTI) and Intelligent Network solutions, today announced an agreement with L&H, a worldwide market leader in speech and linguistics technologies, products and services. Through this agreement EMS will be able to provide advanced "speech-enabled" Interactive Voice Response (IVR) applications to its broad base of customers. The EMS generated IVR applications will employ a combination of speech recognition technology from L&H and grammar tools from Unisys Corporation. EMS will design, develop, integrate, implement and provide on-going support services for the advanced speech solution offerings in the Microsoft NT environment. EMS licensed the L&H ASR 1500 Speech Recognizer for integration into its SpeechAccess IVR product offerings. "Our customers will significantly benefit from the speech enabled IVR solutions as they will significantly reduce the time of the telephone call as well as reduce line expenses," said Anurag Singh, President of EMS. "Callers will engage in a more user friendly telephone dialog than current IVR touch-tone/ DTMF implementations are able to offer. Users will be able to quickly navigate through voice prompts using conversational English rather than using multiple 0 - 9 numeric menu options." EMS' new Speech Enabled Scheduling Application will enable the user to employ natural language and continuous speech to enter appointments in their schedule. Additionally, the caller will be able to use spoken English to communicate time available to work as well as check the times and dates they are currently scheduled to work. The application will also be able to remind the user of scheduled work commitments via the out-bound calling feature. EMS will also utilize L&H's Text to Speech (TTS) technology to assist in testing and simulating the IVR live applications. TTS will also make dynamic and frequently changing prompts, such as dates and names, easier and less costly to modify, change, and update.

SpeechAccess(TM) (IVR Interactive Voice Response Solutions)
EMS's flagship Interactive Voice Response (IVR) product SpeechAccess is a full-featured, scaleable interactive voice response system development tool and runtime environment. SpeechAccess is a software tool to design, prototype, simulate, document, generate and customize Interactive Voice Response (IVR) applications. It has evolved from extensive experience and study of both large and small-scale IVR solutions that exist in the marketplace. SpeechAccess was developed using object-oriented language (Visual C++). SpeechAccess provides Speech Recognition, Text to Speech (TTS) and Natural Language capability. SpeechAccess Application Designer brings the application designing and prototyping process to a portable platform (such as a desktop, laptop or notebook). Once the call flow chart design is completed and tested, you simply click the "Run Driver" option from SpeechAccess Application Designer's Utility menu, which executes the SpeechAccess Runtime directly from your Windows screen. SpeechAccess Runtime provides the interface between the call flows generated from SpeechAccess Application Designer and various voice/fax cards, databases and files for implementing multi-line audio text, interactive voice response (IVR), fax-back and fax-on-demand on a Microsoft NT platform.
