Dixons Group Plc said on Tuesday its subsidiary Freeserve, Britain's leading Internet service, had signed a contract with World Telecom to provide web-based email to Freeserve's 1.25 million users and visitors to the Freeserve portal site.

Freeserve customers and visitors to the portal will be able to register for a Freeserve e-mail address from the home page.

Once registered, users will be able to send and receive email through their Freeserve email from any Internet connection using their normal user name and password.

Dixons said Freeserve expects the service to be operating in Autumn 1999.

World Telecom shares were up 1-1/2 pence or 2.04 percent at 75p shortly after the statement. Dixons shares were 13 pence or 0.98 percent down at 1320p.
