agree with all your assertions. as to the fascination with politicians.. before i understood what was happening, i was in awe of them. i didn't know anything about economics so i didn't know they were full of crap. now i can spot a keynesian a mile away. i usually only have to listen to them talk approximately a minute and i know where they stand on almost all the issues. it sounds like you have known about them since you were a kid. if so, you were lucky to have a good education. 2010 can't come soon enough for me..
