My former employer cooperated with the FBI in something far more intrusive during the Afghan war. I've always wondered what effect it had, if any, in catching any bad guys. It doesn't take a CIA expert to figure out that we would like to know what the terrorists are googling. Google has an Arabic version, and it wouldn't be a work of genius to find out the ISP's of a lot of the terrorists. The drawback on this is that I know how few Arabic linguists we have. And based on polls I have posted, how to figure out which of them, who are Muslims, we can trust.
