I think that third party should be the NUN rather than a self-dealing oil president who is not representative of a democratic world [which of course doesn't exist yet]. It isn't really in Russian interests to have a virulent Iranian Islamic Jihad programme. Remember Beslan? That's Islamic Jihad. Part of the Umma.
