THoughts on the impact of ebay, prodigy, BOOK's ipo, (as well as bertelesmann and bks' calling off a us internet partnership at the last minute, borders' apparently internet comatose state, bertelesmann's conf call re: internet strategy and 8 very senior M&D types who claimed they will kick ass, particularly in Asia and Europe where they have massive brand name recog and history)??? my own view -- the more internet ipos that kick in, the greater the dispersion of investor money -- i believe that it's a limited universe of investors who'll buy this stuff, momos, dreamers, internet "believers", folks who think a dcf is some birth control acronym (oh how i digress) -- so less volatility for the current players. the ipos may add more legitimacy to the endeavor or just create a few more inflated ballons bopping around inside one giant hot air balloon -- all ready to .... LP
