I subscribe to a theory that initiative voters are missing the whole ball game. Those who position themselves image-wise by writing initiatives and getting them passed are not necessarily true believers. In this age of word processors and easily-saved text, there's no EXCUSE for one word being "accidentally" changed before the question is submitted to the ballot, other than to give opponents a decent "hook" in the courtroom.

But the concept of "Be careful who you trust" is as old as politics itself...
