You are right James. They should go to a "software" company for the fix. Who would you recommend? Maybe your company MS. That would be the best bet. They they could have the system down every 20 minutes or so. They could really get to love the blue screen. MS has never written software that could hold up to that kind of volume, never. You said yourself, they are the king's of the desktop. Ebay is way beyond the desktop or anything their 36millon lines of code for the new NT could ever handle.

They problem here is not Sun. The problem is Ebay wanting the reinvent the wheel with their own back end and not being able to keep up with the traffic. There are few examples of this type of volume to learn from, but with partners like Sun and Oracle at least they the most experienced team dealing with this challenge.

If Meg turned to MS she would be looking for a job in a week.
