SPREAD TALK: Speculative-grade credit spreads rose to a new high for the year on Friday. At 1343.6 basis points over Treasuries, the S&P speculative-grade credit index reached its highest level since record-keeping began in January 1999, eclipsinng the previous high of 1323.4 basis points set on August 7th and the 2001 high of 1,269.8 basis points. The current level is much higher than the 2002 low of 850.3 basis points.
