I believe there are several training places for the USCG on the Great Lakes. Let the trainees fire off a few before trying to protect our ports. Not like the Great Lakes are only a few acres.

I remember some big guns on the St.Lawrence Seaway. 40 years ago I was on the Seaway in a 48' boat when the Queen of England went by on a British destroyer. The owner of the boat I was on did a toot toot and the destroyer ran her flag down and up. The fleet was 3 destroyers and one was delayed in the locks. She went by the next morning STEAMING and the wash was like a series of tidal waves.
