Fuel conservation has been forgotten for many years now.

How do you figure?

While there are more SUV on the road, I would hardly say that fuel mileage has returned to levels of the '60s and 70s.

Especially considering how the ORIGINAL CAFE federally mandated mileage standards were 18 MPG in 1973, and then INCREASED to 27.5 MPG and now they want to raise them to 30 MPG

fueleconomy.gov

Technology is only able to improve mileage just so much while remaining in compliance with federal vehicle safety guidelines.

And when you think about it, energy consumption as a percentage of our overall GDP has decreased substantially over the last 20 years...

But there is only so much blood you can squeeze from the turnip pal...

You're just like the rest of the pseudo-intellectuals who make great demagougic statements about what we "have to do", but provide NO LEADERHIP OR PRACTICAL PLAN ON HOW TO ACCOMPLISH IT.
