A little good news for KFlex:

www8.zdnet.com

"..... We also found that K56Flex modems generally performed better than the X2 lot in our Impairment and Network Model tests, although there were exceptions such as the US Robotics Courier External and the Global Village Teleports, which matched K56Flex speed.

But half of the X2 modems faired much better than the K56Flex modems on the File Types 1, 2, 3, and 5 tests. While these file transfers were over clean lines and do not represent a real world situation, this information used in conjunction with the Impairment and Net- work Model Coverage tests yield a better picture of how the modems will perform in various situations.

Lastly, there is one set of results that we will not speculate on, that is that some modems' initial connect rates are much higher than their average throughputs. So, when we connected, our dial-up networking reported our initial connect speed as a certain rate, but the modem actually transmitted files at much lower rates. Most of these performance differences were observed in X2 modems. Only the Diamond SupraExpress external (not the internal) 56KFlex modem display this trait."
