I agree that the NC is not viable today. The necessary network bandwith is not yet cheap enough and the necessary software is not yet written. But in a few years the picture could look different. I don't think that we can predict the the outcame today.
ADSL/VDSL networking equipment will allow enough cheap bandwith to the home to make a NC at home viable. One atvantage of such a system would be that you could build it as noise free equipment if you leave out fans and harddisks. I would definitely prefer a computer that does not produce any noise.
