Amelio is underpromising so he can over-deliver. If he said profitability in the 3rd Q, the market would just say "show me" and any result would be judged against that level of profit. If he says by the 4th Q and delivers any profit in the 3rd, the market will respond positively.

Don't confuse managements public statements with their actual intentions. Amelio is doing everything he can to show bottom line. I wouldn't be suprised by a modest profit in Q3, but don't forget that they are not expensing all restructuring costs this quarter, and that only 80% of the savings are anticipated to be there by then.
