living in los angeles, I can see what we are up against. There are so many who believe that the government's responsibility is to take care of us.

The progression is pretty obvious over the long term.

-Everyone works hard to advance themselves, US becomes the land of opportunity. Capitalism in it's prime. Not perfect, but self correcting.
-US is land of opportunity, but some people see the wealth of others and figure that they are owed the same. Welcome the freeloader class and the introduction of subtle socialist policies. Thanks FDR!!!
-Freeloader class becomes dominant and the land of opportunity becomes economic wasteland as producers are bled dry and incentives to innovate and produce are removed. Socialism no longer subtle.
-Productive people leave or otherwise stop producing, economy can't sustain itself with everyone being a freeloader. Government steps in to force eveyone to be productive. Welcome to communism.

So the question is, can the progression be stopped once socialism has taken a firm hold? Much of Europe seems to be at an equilibrium where they aren't teetering too closely to communism.

Like in that link you sent, I consider myself an American...with an American, free market, capitalist state of mind.....makes the decision hard....

and yeah, it's sad to see the death and dying of a great country.
