Flap,

The fact to me that people who care about their child's education will send their kids to a private school and shop around says enough to me, that competition is eventually the answer.

I want people with a vested interest in educating my child. And if they screw it up, I want to walk into that school and take my child and put him somewhere they care about his education.

Don't get me wrong, because the majority of teachers are well meaning and quite competent. But our focus shouldn't be on getting competent teachers, it should be on getting the best ones and paying them accordingly.

The largest problem with comparing vouchers to public schools I think is in the method of measure. If you were to undertake the task of measuring a total restructure of our public education system you would likely see that it will take years to identify and solve all the problems. Vouchers should be afforded the same level of opportunity. In the long run, we get higher paid teachers, newer facilities, smaller communities, less bureaucracy, the choice of how we want our kids educated---and less crowded public schools to fall back on.
