<<"If calling us a republic rather than a democracy is important maybe someone can point out why they think the word matters? In practical matters."

The difference ought to be obvious. Look in a dictionary or an encyclopedia?--YES??

Nobody should have to tell you they are two different things. You know that cats and rats are different? And you certainly have access to encyclopedias and dictionarys and school texts??? >>

That was quite a rant, but there are many definitions for both democracies and republics (and we use democracy to describe our form of government colloquially) and I wanted to know what you think the difference is between a democracy and republic?

Just like all democracies are welfare states, a combination of socialism and capaitalism, so all democracies are a combination of peoples ideas of democratic and republic, because people have many different definitions of both.

I wanted to know what your definition is. I think I know what it is, but I am also quite sure it would not work in the real world!

So forget the labels, all I want to understand is your thinking. Just tell me how you would construct our democracy/republic to fit your ideology? What do you think we need to change??

And can you do it in a couple of paragrpahs?
