Can't the underperformance of the Dow Dogs be attributed to the rotational correction that seems to be continuing? Bob has pointed out that the summer correction was largely one that hit the large caps but the small caps are near their highs.

While I prefer the MarketTimer portfolio, there is an "emotion-less" strategy that looks interesting. James O'Shaughnessy has written a book "What Works on Wall Street - A Guide to the Best-Performing Investment Strategies of All Time" which examines a number of popular strategies, back tests them, and derives a blend which he implements in the O'Shaughnessy Cornerstone Growth Fund (OSCGX).
