Healtheon (HLTH) and WebMD want to become the first end-to-end internet based
healthcare e-commerce company. The companies also has a $250 million investment
from Microsoft so it can learn how to form a monopoly and dominate their market.
Just kidding. :) Healtheon (HLTH) and other healthcare website related stocks have
been surging this week.

Shares of Healtheon surged 25 percent Thursday after the company formally announced that
indeed it is merging with privately held WebMD. Healtheon (HLTH: news, msgs) shares
swelled 20 3/8 to 100 5/8, a more than two-fold increase since the start of last week when word
of an imminent deal began to leak out. Based on the average trading price of Healtheon since
the start of last week, the merger is valued at $5.3 billion. The post-merger company, to be
called Healtheon WebMD, aims to become the first end-to-end Internet-based health-care and
e-commerce company. WebMD will be the portal site. "This is a great deal for both companies
that creates a strong one-stop vendor of Internet services to physicians," said Daren
Marhula, an Internet analyst at U.S. Bancorp Piper Jaffray who follows health-care-related
online firms. The combination enables "key players," such as patients, doctors and insurers,
"to share information," said Healtheon co-founder James Clark on a conference call
discussing the merger. - CBS Marketwatch
