This portfolio is down 4.99% year to date, the S&P 500 is down 6.37% year to date, so it isn't as bad as it looks. Meanwhile the income growth actually grew this year.

If you were to dig into each holding, the larger losses have come from the smaller sized positions so portfolio weightings have made a positive impact on limiting losses.

I'm not suggesting I couldn't have done better, but I certainly have achieved what I set out to do. I have maintained a high level of income while minimizing the downside or put it another way, capital preservation with regard to not losing as much as an index fund would have done.
