... is but one example of the kinds of unintended consequences which could result from a US-led war against Iraq.

Most Americans, especially those who watch FoxNews (who in the early stages of the buildup were confidently being told how, as if it's a sure thing, that "we've got the Saudis the south and the Turks to the north, blah, blah and more blah..."} probably don't think much of Turkey.

To most of 'em, think Turkey's just sorta something for very white and very safe peoples' dinner table, once a year in November, this due to some kind cornlike acts of prior day pilgrims.

They don't realize Turkey's got issues with Nagorno-Karabakh, another place Americans don't know much about; they don't realize that Turkey's got issues with Cyprus; they don't know that Turkey's got issues with Iran; and they've heard maybe a tiny bit that Turkey's got issues with the Iraqi Kurds.

Meanwhile, there's Saudi Arabia and Yemen both of whom are in deep doo what with the Al Qaeda challenges, especially amongst younger generations. What would become the tinderbox effect of Al Qaeda on these two nations, among others? Eygpt, for example--seems like something's always waiting to happen there (how long was it the Egyptian leader was assassinated)?

Then there's Syria daddy to Lebanon which borders Israel and most know at least a little bit that there's all kinds of trouble over there.

And what about poor lil' Jordan squeezed in between everything? Anyone really think Her Majesty, Queen Noor, the widowed American wife of the late Jordanian king, can hold it all together, i.e., keep Americans in good standing?
Ah, lest we forget there's Iran. Hmmmm. Anyone think Iran has Caspian Sea issues? After all, Iran accepted Saddam's air force during the Gulf War--how will it behave this time around?

And has anyone considered the possibility that in a long, protracted situation that Arab unity might arise against the intersets of the USA?

Fact is, anything can happen once war breaks out and anything can happen should a long standoff result from American hesitancy to move into urban combat in Baghdad. If it does move into urban combat in Baghdad, how many people die and then how great will become the ever rising Muslim hatred for the policies of America?

Now, jallen, Bill, Lazarus, Foxlette, among others who participate on this thread, simply think only a pinhead would pose questions like the ones above. Me happens to think only a pinhead would question, or ridicule even, those who would ask questions such as the ones raised above. I mean it's almost as if they've annointed GWB as their dictator and whatever he thinks or does is good enough for them.
