One of the more interesting questions no one seems bold enough to ask in the media....the Iraqis blame us for not providing security after occupying their country...but who is committing all the criminal and political violence?

The Iraqis, of course.

At first blush this seems to be a society with little or no sense of responsibility or accountability. And that's not just a byproduct of living under a dictator, that's an easy excuse.

It's very un-PC to point out that maybe the Iraqis weren't such a noble people to "liberate" after all. Anyone who can steal hospital emergency room equipment when their neighbors are dying is pretty low in my book.

That said, I know little about the Arab world and never traveled there. Who knows if I ever will, apart from the historical sites no one has ever told me much to recommend it.

A last word about journalism - you don't see their names but it's actually editors moreso than reporters that shape the "if it bleeds, it leads" approach to journalism today. Reporters want air time or the front page and editors control access. The rest follows naturally.
