In comparing SAP with PSFT, don't forget that SAP spends more on R&D each year than PSFT makes in revenue. That is the kind of disparity that makes leading companies like INTC and MSFT unbeatable. If you have doubts, just compare long term charts of INTC with AMD. Sure, AMD always had attractive valuations relative to INTC. But INTC just keeps going from strength to strength while AMD keeps threshing around. There are qualitative differences between two companies like these. Conclusion: Numbers don't tell all.
