Cabletron Systems Selects LSI Logic's GigaBlaze CORE For Its SmartSwitch 9500 Family
Gigabit Transceiver Core Enables Breakthrough Capacity in ATM Network Switch
MILPITAS, Calif., June 14 /PRNewswire/ -- LSI Logic Corporation (NYSE: LSI), The System on a Chip Company(R), today announced that it is has been selected by Cabletron Systems to supply its GigaBlaze(R) system-on-a-chip ASIC transceiver core for the SmartSwitch 9500 family, an enterprise-class networking switch chassis.

LSI Logic's GigaBlaze family combines the power of CMOS integrated transceivers with the ease-of-use of LSI Logic's CoreWare(R) methodology. Cabletron's SmartSwitch 9500 incorporates an 8-channel GigaBlaze transceiver core running at 1.25 Gbps full duplex per channel totaling 20 Gbps of throughput on a single piece of silicon.

LSI Logic's GigaBlaze core provides full duplex, point-to-point communication channels for gigabit serial interfaces and contains both deserializer and serializer mixed-signal circuitry. Protocol independence enables the core to be used with standard high-speed communications protocols to create a high-speed serial interface.
