This is the first novel of his that I've read, and although his words just flow off of the page.......I was upset for a week or so after reading The Road. I didn't take the time or didn't think to note the date of publication. I assume it must have been written during the Cold War period?

I was left with a joyless and dispirited feeling, and believe that if the day ever came, besides the heroic protagonist, humans would most likely react the way McCarthy's humans reacted, and that alone is enough to depress the most optimistic among us.

I'll probably pick up another of his books though, and give him another try if only to study his style of writing. I was fascinated by his composition.
