A new development from the Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST) in South Korea could advance the field of soft robotics.

The team successfully created a novel artificial muscle that could shift its mechanical state.

Interestingly, it can transform from soft and flexible to rigid and strong, like rubber turning into steel.

It stiffens when bearing heavy loads and softens when contracting.
