The answer is 'yes'. ATT only deals in open standards. MSFT didn't "write a check" to ATT, they bought T equity (which is merely a good business decision). The deal AT&T has with MSFT is to 'showcase' WinCE in 3 markets (period).

AT&T doesn't use software that they don't have source code for, or isn't compatible with open standards. ATT, after all is the source of NT connectivity for SUNW's Project Cascade interop product. In any case, if WinCE is going to ever jump out of those 'showcase' markets, the standard Java vm will be in the CE mix, or else...
