Because you'll never know whether the Doc you admire is really so great, or he's just a good salesman.

And the best salesman may be the one that helps you to get better. Belief in your Doctor has been proven, time and time again, to be a major factor in getting well.

We just saw an example of this in the Cystic Fibrosis analysis I posted. One hospital's program has consistently had better results that any other. When you look at why, it seems to be that the people running it are better at getting teenagers to do their daily drills to break up chest congestion.

A Doctor that can convince you to quit bad habits such as smoking and drinking is worth much more to you than a better Doctor that can't.
