Pareto, L'Chaiim is a Hebrew phrase meaning To Life. It is the traditional Jewish toast the world over. Sadly, I've never read any of Tolkien's works. But I am pleased that you mentioned Bilbo Baggins because there is a restaurant by that name in Alexandria, Virginia (just outside Washington, D.C.) by that name. I always wondered about the name but was afraid to ask. I'm glad I didn't because I would have betrayed my ignorance.
