Our media loves to build up horror stories. Good news doesn't sell newspapers nor attract viewers to TV news programs. A point to consider is the current uproar about the use of Cox-2 inhibitors-Vioxx,Bextra abd Celebrex. According to the "stories", the use of these kills patients. But I'd like to suggest a different clinical trial. One set of patients would be those with unbearable intractable long term pain and the study would be designed to discern how many heart problems would arise in this population were they denied these drugs. I'd hazzard a guess that the numbers of "incidents" would be far higher than those getting pain relief from these medications. My wife has been prescribed each in turn to see which helped her the most.
