We did not want to wear our uniforms when I was in. It did not draw you the attention you would want. In fact in some countries, Italy comes to mind, we were not allowed to wear them.

I do remember this one sea story though. I was flying back for an A school and we ended up laid over in Paris. After some serious drinking and cruising we decided to get something to eat. Back to the hotel we went to eat there. 4 of us had dinner and when we were finished this older gentlemen came up to our table and asked if we were American Servicemen. We responded quietly that we were and he said I am buying your dinners and want to thank you for all that you do. Couldn't figure out why until he walked away and the Chief said the guy had a numbered tattoo on his fore arm of a camp survivor.

Only time I was in that I ever had anyone respond to me positively that I remember.
