[Exodus Enters Into Over $20 Million Alliance With Qwest to Expand Network to Meet Customer Needs; Qwest IP Backbone Gives Exodus Additional Network Redundancies]

SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 23, 1998--Exodus Communications(TM) Inc. (NASDAQ:EXDS), a leading provider of Internet system and network management solutions for enterprises with mission-critical Internet operations, today announced that it has entered into an alliance with Qwest Communications to meet the growing demands of its customers.

Under the terms of the agreement, Qwest will provide Exodus(TM) with OC-12 circuits between many of Exodus' Internet Data Centers, which will complement Exodus' currently redundant OC-3 and DS-3 network. The greatly enhanced capacity will allow the company to support the tremendous growth in traffic between its network and the Internet, which has grown to more than 1.5 gigabits per second.

Qwest will benefit from Exodus' expertise in the area of enabling complex data and multimedia services.

"This alliance with Qwest allows Exodus to gain OC-12 capacity for the first time, and will quadruple the size of our nationwide backbone," said Ellen Hancock, president of Exodus Communications. "This relationship also adds another layer of network redundancy to Exodus' operations and diversifies the vendors we work with to provide network backbone and capacity."

"Qwest is excited to work with Exodus to expand our capabilities to offer our customers advanced managed services for Web-enabled applications," said Lew Wilks, president of Business Markets for Qwest.
