Regarding global warming, now called climate change because we're entering a new cycle of cooling, I sent the following letter to my two US Senators yesterday:

I received your e-mail responding to my objection to climate change legislation being considered by Congress. It saddened me to learn how someone in a position of power like yourself could be so poorly informed on this issue.

Your opening paragraph refers to what you call the “growing scientific consensus about climate change”. First, consensus is not science. There was a consensus at one time that the earth was flat and that blood letting was a useful medical treatment.

However, if you need to have numbers of scientists objecting to the alarmist hysteria promulgated by the global warming power seekers then I refer you to the Oregon Institute of Science and Medicine’s Global Warming Petition Project, signed by 31,478 scientists, including 9,029 with PhDs.

I quote from the purpose of the petition:

“The purpose of the Petition Project is to demonstrate that the claim of “settled science” and an overwhelming “consensus” in favor of the hypothesis of human-caused global warming and consequent climatological damage is wrong. No such consensus or settled science exists. As indicated by the petition text and signatory list, a very large number of American scientists reject this hypothesis.”

Richard Lindzen, Alfred P. Sloan Professor of Atmospheric Science at MIT, wrote an article dated 4/12/06 entitled Climate of Fear, describing how global warming alarmists intimidate dissenting scientists into silence.
