tc,

I'll be building a very similar system soon. I came to the same conclusions regarding price-performance. I already have 512 DDR memory and then got cold feet with some reports of inferior performance with two of the three chipsets made for the DDR memory. I'm waiting for the new VIA KT266 chipset motherboards to work out their initial bugs, if they do soon. If I had to buy right now I'd go with the AMD 761 chipset as you are.

One comment from a newbie box builder. The AMD's run hot and you may want to extend the life of your processor by springing for a better fan/heatsink combination. There are some websites devoted exclusively to cooling AMD. Jeff Jordan on the QCharts thread is building a 1200 TBird system and posted this about cooling: Message 15706120

He might have some insight in this regard.

Best of luck and let us know how things go.

Esteban
