Manna fron heaven in that post. Many thanks!
For me, Frye says much here:
For double the vision my eyes do see, And a double vision is always with me: With my inward eye 'tis an old man grey; With my outward a thistle across my way.
and here:
The natural vision of space is founded on the subject-object split, and whatever is objectified in ordinary experience is 'there,' even if it is in the middle of our own backbones. At the centre of space is 'here,' but 'here' is never a point, it is always a circumference. We draw a circle around ourselves and say that 'here' is inside it. What is, in the common phrase, neither here nor there does not exist, at least in space.
and much, much more!
Anyway life may be about seeking out equilibrium between the "fires within and the water without" or as Frye phrases it "the inward eye and the outward eye" or "the here and the there". Disequilibrium, too much fire within, too much outward eye, too much "here" not enough "there" seems to cause angst.
