RE: XLU vs UTES, which one of the two ETFs would you pick if you were to add some utility exposure in your retirement account?

I put my money on UTES. UTES blows away XLU since its inception in September of 2015 in all the typical measures, 1,3, 5 years and lifetime, however, they were running kind of neck and neck until May of 2023.
This is one industry where I think active management can beat the sector index. Reaves has a great track record in the utility space managing both UTES and UTG. It may be a little unfair to compare UTG to XLU because UTG is only 75% utilities and uses about 20% leverage but that's close enough in my book. UTES is pure utilities but they don't pay much of a dividend.

If I wanted more income I would split UTES with UTG or HTD or any number of CEF utility/infrastructure funds.
