michael,

Thanks! Just got my computer up and running after four days of malfunctioning. No, semiconductors will be around and become even more ubiquitious. But we need to be aware that these equipment companies are high-fixed costs enterprises. Tom Kurlack of Merrill Lynch was interviewed on CMP Net Friday www.techweb.com/investor and he noted that "you can't fire a machine when orders ease." Point being that costs remain fixed while orders/revenues rise and fall. That is true for most equipment makers. Now with that said, I agree with you and do not believe that equipment demand will be that heavily affected by Asian Currency issues. Simply stated- either you keep your fab top- of-the -line, or else the competitors will "eat your lunch". Thus there is a continual need to upgrade equipment. So demand may slacken some in 1998, but I do not think that demand will "fall off of a cliff". Are we at a bottom? Possibly. we are flirting with the previous low of a few months ago- and I am betting that that price will hold (primarily because interest rates are still dropping in the US)... For one more company with great prospects in HDD and flip chips like KLIC, go check out INVX. Their new flip chip plant will be open shortly (in their Litchfield Precision Components Division)....

Sincerely,

Doug F.
