Note to the New York Times: The Bush Administration Isn't Following Your Advice Yet
By Daniel Freedman on Syria

New York Times headline:

Iran's Strong Ties With Syria Complicate U.S. Overtures

What overtures?

The only thing we've heard from the administration on Syria is a confirmation that the American government is working to topple Assad. If that's an overture, then let's have more. The only people making overtures toward Syria has been apologist senators such as Senator Specter. Last time we checked he wasn't in the White House.

But as the New York Times article notes (although of course it blames America for forcing Syria into Iran's arms, not Syria's support for terrorism and occupation of Lebanon), the connections between Iran and Syria mean that those who wish to separate the two have unrealistic aims. And Syria shows no desire to separate from Iran. As we noted yesterday, they're very excited about receiving Iran's nuclear know-how.
