Powell: No WMDs no war..mebbe

Note that Scottie is all over the place when asked pointed questions about Powell's comments. Is he part of the admin or someone with a mind of his own? Maybe a new O'Neill?

timesonline.co.uk

"Colin Powell, the US Secretary of State, has cast doubts on whether he would have supported the war in Iraq had he known there was no stockpiles of weapons of mass destruction.

Mr Powell told the Washington Post:"The absence of a stockpile changes the political calculus; it changes the answer you get."

Asked if he would have recommended an invasion knowing Iraq had no prohibited weapons, he replied: "I don’t know, because it was the stockpile that presented the final little piece that made it more of a real and present danger and threat to the region and to the world."

General Powell gave the interview almost a year to the day after telling the UN that Iraq’s WMD potential was a grave threat to the world...."
