I'd like to expand on my comment about mergers and which companies will be successful...
I am speaking as a "techie" consumer here...

What I want as a home consumer is one service that will provide telephone, internet, and television. One line into my house, one bill. When a company steps forward that can do this they will be the winner.
What I see happening in the not too distant future is the large telcoms, baby bells, AT&T etc, cooperating with smaller specialized companies to provide "whole-house" service. The companies providing the particular service (internet, TV, telephone) would be transparent to the consumer. The consumer only has to deal with the "front" company. The front company however, need not be the big established companies like AT&T, or Sprint. The front will be any company, cable, wireless, or internet that has formed the best alliances.

DirectTV is an example of a promising alliance with Sony/RCA et al. Their bandwidth potential allows for them to expand into telephone and internet services.

CAI Wireless needs to get that BANX alliance formed and look into the future for providing interactive services.
