Hey, no lightening things up! But this part is quite right: <Pacifism is not, as many self-proclaimed pacifists do, screaming vitriolic anger at people and then claiming you are non-violent because you didn't strike anybody. If you think this is an exaggeration, look at photos and examine the faces of people who are engaged in "peace protests," or better yet, watch their actions and behaviors on film when they are confronting someone. They are many things, but non-violent is not one of them. >
Here is a "peace activist" at work [convicted too]. He acted as a "human shield" in Iraq. stuff.co.nz
What a nasty piece of work he is.
Since most "peace activists" are left wingers [meaning wanting lots of state control and redistribution of wealth and forcing of other people to do what the lefties want done], they by definition are violent since the state can only get OPM [other people's money] by forcing them by various threats [prison, shooting, fines etc].
I don't think I am: <And second, you are quite wrong here...>
<<Nor, I bet, do you spend your days helping other people for no pay. >>
When I wrote "pay" I was going to belabour the point that there is more than money which is used as payment. But of course, in simple money terms most people spend most of their time not being paid. Most people do lots of things for other people without money payment. But we do things because they make us feel good and because they benefit us, directly or indirectly, to a greater or lesser extent.
Totally pure altruism is an interesting concept. When I help people who I'll never see again, it's not altruism, it's building social credit. I'm pretty sure that they'll do the same for others, who will be encouraged to do the same for others, who will be me, or my family, or friends. If the benefit I provide is not more than the cost to me, then I'm not likely to provide the help.
In fact, I get quite annoyed when I provide costly help which is then not converted to a higher value benefit to somebody else. It's the old "No good deed goes unpunished" law of nature. Which is related to "Easy come, easy go". If people get unearned wealth, they tend to wastefulness. People who put in the effort, appreciate the result more than those who have things handed on a plate.
But I don't buy the idea that peaceful people won't be attacked by the violent. That's simply completely untrue. I know it's all karmic and mystic, but mosquitoes, lions, hyenas, gangs of thugs and Genghis Khan take what they want and if the opposition doesn't resist, all to the good. Sheep which don't resist the slaughter are excellent to work with.
Speaking of women and work, I'm sure you know the expression, "A woman's work is never done". That's what I've noticed too. I think they should damn well get on and do it. I used to get my work done and on time!
