Noticed in your cut and paste that one advantage of KM is "less thermal decay" and then in Project 2 that "in future ultra-high density storage media, the thermal decay effect will be much larger than current media", thus, this is probably one of the supports which AXC is counting on making KM necessary for future disks beyond MR. BTW, where do we access his further work? "Please see the Intermag 97 abstracts summarizing this work" HUH???? Also noticed the one drawback to KM he specifically mentions is "much more complicated noise" Assume that the new amplifier chip project they're co-funding w/ Maxtor to be especially made to correct for this weakness. Sure would like to have a URL to this Intermag 97 stuff to read up much more on KM. Yesterday's rise to 7 15/16 was great in light of market selloff, even in hi tech!
