zbyte,

it looks like you are doing a lot of the right stuff to try to make your pc run better. a couple questions that came to mind after reading your post involve the virus you eradicated (hopefully). i asked if your machine was virus-free at this time.... what's the answer? i.e, are you running full-system scans with updated virus definitions? and you said you deleted various system files upon the advice of a news group. okay. and you also ran system file checker. but did you run sfc after deleting the system files to remove the virus?

i can't find any info at the symantec security site for "Snow White virus. Dll 32 destroyer" #reply-15718462 but i really think you should concentrate some more efforts in this area until and unless you can assure yourself that you've effectively removed the virus.

meanwhile, there's this microsoft knowledgebase article that looks to be right up your alley....

Computer Speed and Performance May Decrease
support.microsoft.com

i like the first two causes given:

"Programs may be started automatically when you start your computer. Programs that run when you start your computer typically run all the time; this uses a portion of your computer's system resources that cannot be used for any other task."

and...

"You may be running a program that creates memory leaks. When you quit a program, the system resources that the program uses should be returned to the operating system. However, some programs do not return all of these resources, effectively "leaking" memory; this can create a low system-resource state."

check out the resolutions listed and see if they do you any good.

for your HP deskjet610cl printer prob, tell us if you have been to the hp support site and perused their solutions?
hp.com

that's it for me for now, zbyte

hope this helps

:)
