So the question is, can the progression be stopped once socialism has taken a firm hold? Much of Europe seems to be at an equilibrium where they aren't teetering too closely to communism.

if you believe that what about this.... (communism is not the only problem)

* sharia law is beginning to be introduced in britain, france, the netherlands and denmark (and possibly other european countries)...

* population of the major european countries is in such decline (compared to the muslim populations of each of these countries is growing....) that the replacement of the european population is beyond repair.... (replenishment)

* taxes are even higher than here... corporate, personal... VAT ( a glimpse of what is to come)?

* finances in some of the countries... are worse than here... (if one can imagine that)

that is not very good equilibrium....

however you do make some good points about 2010.... i am just simply doubtful that after so many years and even on the last attempt.... a trend reversal strong enough will be created....
