You and Hawkmoon are going insane. Poverty = lack of money. Republicans = 45% increase in DEBT in 6 years. More than all other administrations combined. Them thar is real money IN THE TRILLIONS which we have to pay back. We pay over $300 billion a year in interest which is only going to increase since rates are increasing. If we did not have to pay this interest, we would have more money to alleviate POVERTY. Republicans = blowing up things in Iraq instead of investing in housing, infrastructure, education, new businesses. Republicans = transfering wealth from the working middle class and even upper middle class to the ultrawealthy. Fees, local taxes, property taxes go up while services go down all to make Paris Hilton and the Bushes richer. Face it. This is NOT the Republican party of the mid last century. It's just a ruse based on a label and you're falling for it. Dems might have lost the South over civil rights but Republicans have lost all sense of morality and competence.
