It should be noted that DeLay told Time, as Mike Allen emphasized last night, that he does not believe he will be convicted and that he did not do anything wrong.

NR has been a staunch (est?) defender of DeLay on that front.

My sense is that it's a shame DeLay had to resign--particularly because Ronnie Earle is probably doing cartwheels today--but that it is probably a good thing for the party. Though Law & Order and everyone else will find a new Republican to use as a swearword before long.

Bottom line, I imagine though, is that the former whip knows how to count and he didn't have the numbers and wasn't going to fight a losing battle--especially one that would be a trophy to the Left.
