It is interesting to know what situation will be developed in the future about
Apple and IBM relationship.

If IBM enters MacOS platform market, what are the advantages and
disadvantages for Apple:

Advantages:

- The percentage of Mac sales over total pc sales will increase, probably
from current 11.2% to 15-16% in half a year;
- Mac OS software sales will increase;
- More revenues from OS clone sales;
- More powerful PowerPC chip will be available in the market;
- Better strategic alliance will be established between IBM and Apple;
- More software (applications) will be ported to new OS;
- More Enterprise market share helped from new OS and IBM;

Disadvantages:

- Certain percentage of market share will be taken away from Apple by IBM;
(but it may be trival since Apple could not digest all the market share
due to its production problems);
- Clone companies may get PowerBook license from IBM and their products
will compete with Apple's;
- Delay new OS porting to WinTel or even never porting to WinTel (this
will be very complicated issue, but interesting, unless IBM acquires
Apple, otherwise, sooner or later the same issue will be popped up in
the future);

Therefore this is a tradeoff for Apple and IBM. I believe IBM even doesn't
know what will be the best for MacOS as a while at the current situation.
How about you? Provide some opinions?
